The National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA) and State Farm will help inform communities about and protect them from
wildfires on May 6, the fourth annual national Wildfire Community Preparedness
Day.
Out of 420 projects that applied for
funding made available by State Farm for Preparedness Day, 150 communities in
42 states and Washington, D.C., will receive $500 to help make their areas more
resilient to wildfires. The funding and Preparedness Day are intended to get
communities thinking about what actions they can take to be prepared for
wildfires. Project applicants submitted their plans for groups or individuals
to work together to reduce the risk of wildfire in their communities, reduce a
wildfire’s potential impact for their communities or improve advance
preparedness for wildfires within their communities.
“Since NFPA and State Farm first
partnered together on Preparedness Day, the number of entries has grown
tremendously,” P&C underwriting analyst Vickie Hodges said. “We are pleased
and encouraged to see these communities so dedicated to reducing the risk of
wildfire in their area. For State Farm, the largest home insurer in the U.S.,
it is important to us to take a leadership role in helping homeowners stay safe
and better protect their property.”
