Archer Daniels Midland Company Chairman and CEO Juan Luciano recently spoke to the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) with a keynote address focused on innovation in agriculture and how the industry can continue to develop.

“Led by the U.S., the world has been able not only to feed a population that has increased by 5 billion since 1950, but also to feed the world a better diet,” Luciano said.

He spoke to how expanded research, emerging technologies and infrastructure investment will help farmers around the world meet increased demands for food, nutrition and health, feeding a projected global population of 9.6 billion people by 2050.

Luciano posited that technological advances and trade will become increasingly important in the coming years.

“Climates, crop seasonality and the impact of weather patterns make trade essential for feeding the world, for the health of global economy and for farmers worldwide,” Luciano said.

In concluding his address, he urged NGFA members to continue investing in innovation, research and development and young talent.

“Working together, we can ensure that U.S. agriculture will continue the transformational, life-altering gains that have made our world a better place, a more humane place—a place of hope, promise and shared prosperity,” he said.
